SAD announces campaign for Iraq Sikh shrine
New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today announced its decision to launch a campaign for rebuilding a Baghdad Sikh shrine bombed by Iraqi insurgents after the US invasion in 2003.
''Today, we pass a resolution towards this endeavour. We pledge a Sikh movement aimed at rebuilding that sacred place,'' SAD Delhi chief Manjit Singh told mediapersons here.
He said, ''The party is ready to start a 'kaar seva' there (Baghdad) if the shrine is given to us.'' The Sikh shrine in Baghdad commemorates the visit of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of the faith, to Iraq and his dialogue with a Muslim religious person, Bahlol Dana, representing interaction between the two religions.
