Melbourne, May 3 : The Australian Government has refused to negotiate further over labour agreements for the 457 visa, which IT recruiters claim have stopped them from bringing thousands of workers to the country.

It must be noted that computing professionals from overseas need 457 visas to work in Australia

The industry was protesting against the changes made in the visa rule since they were introduced October last year, but this effort was undone at a two-hour roundtable between industry stakeholders, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), The Australian reported.

The Recruitment and Consulting Services Association (RCSA) has over 3000 members and its policy adviser Charles Cameron was extremely disappointed with the meeting's result.

"There's absolutely no evidence or justification being provided for why this policy is being maintained," said Cameron.

"What we see as being poor policy of the previous government becomes poor policy of the current government," he added.
