Lalu fixes profit target of Rs one lakh crore for Railways
Chhapra, May 3 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced that he had fixed the target of earning profit of Rs one lakh crore for Railways before the coming Lok Sabha elections due next year.
After launching the electrification works of Barauni-Chhapra- Gorakhpur section here, Mr Prasad informed that with dedication from personnel of Railways, it had earned profit of Rs 69000 Crore so far, which was a record in itself.
''Before my tenure in the Railway Ministry, Railways was a sick unit but it witnessed dramatic turnaround during the last four years,'' he added.
''I am determinted to execute various Railway projects expeditiously in Bihar if the state government co-operates sincerely,'' Mr Prasad said adding tenders for Electric Loco at Madhepura and Diesel Loco at Marhaura had already been invited.
He announced that Railways would provide free pass to girls from rural areas admitted in graduate courses to encourage rural girls to strive for higher education.
