HP Government restricts movement of vehicles on sealed roads

Shimla, May 3 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government has restricted the movement of vehicles on sealed roads of the hill state's capital by announcing the implementation of Road Users and Pedestrians (Public Safety and Convenience) Act, 2007.

Permit or passes for plying of vehicles would only be given to those persons whose work place or the residence is situated on the sealed road and on production of the documentary proof, a government spokesman said in a release here.

He said every applicant would have to deposit a non refundable fee of Rs 100, for government vehicles and Rs 500 for private vehicles as processing fee.

The fee for the sealed road would be Rs 2,500 per route per annum and Rs 2,000 per route per annum for restricted road for private vehicles, while the fee would be Rs 1,000 for the government vehicles for both the sealed and restricted roads, the spokesman said.

He said the Act has been enforced retrospectively from February 26, earlier this year, and sought cooperation from the public for its implementation in letter and spirit.

The Act ensures to make the town pollution free and safe for the pedestrians, especially children and the aged people, he added.
