Heatwave claims two lives

Jamshedpur, May 3 (UNI) District Public Relations Officer of West Singhbhum district Prakash Tirkey died of heatwave at Chaibasa while another person was found dead here in the past 24 hours as mercury shot up to 43.8 degrees Celsius in the Kolhan region of Jharkhand.

Tirkey (50) was admitted to Chaibasa Sadar hospital on Monday in a critical condition after he fell ill due to heatwave conditions, which had been prevailing in the region for more than a fortnight.

After struggling for his life for four days the DPRO breathed his last yesterday, the sources said.

Another unidentified person was found dead at Jugsalai area here, police said.

Meanwhile, the condition slightly improved today as the local Met office recorded the maximum temperature at 42.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 25 degrees Celsius. No rainfall has been recorded, the sources said.
