BJP files complaint against Congress
Itanagar, May 3 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the BJP has lodged a formal complaint with the state Election Commission against the Congress for allegedly assaulting BJP candidates for the coming Panchayat elections.
The BJP accused the Congress activists of physically assaulting, threatening and preventing the filing of nominations by the BJP candidates for the Panchayat elections in different parts of the state.
The BJP alleged that only two police personnel were available for election duty under the jurisdiction of the Returning Officer of Hawaii in Anjaw district where the Congress activists prevented the BJP nominees from filing nominations in Kibitho and Wallong areas.
''The BJP supporters have also faced similar threats in Tawang district,'' the party stated and urged the Election Commission to initiate prompt action and take necessary steps for conducting free and fair Panchayat elections in the state.
