Army helps in controlling forest fire in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 3 (UNI) Around 150 Army jawans helped the Haryana Forests Department and Panchkula District Administration to extinguish the forest fires at Morni and Pinjore area here today.

State Minister for Forests and Tourism Kiran Choudhry said a devastating fire broke out in the forests area of Pinjore and Morni which was controlled with the help of the Army.

She thanked the Army and said with the timely action and promptness showed by the Panchkula District Administration and Forests Department officials, a big mishap was averted as the fire had reached the densely populated residential area.

Panchkula District Magistrate R K Kataria said with the timely help of Army, the precious lives of around 250 school children of Alpine School at Pinjore were saved. In another fire incident, Nolta Resort at Morni was saved from destruction as fire had spread very quickly due to breeze.

The Minister said she had recently briefed the officers of forests, police and administration to be prepared to combat forests fires.
