700 cement bags seized in Ahmednagar Dist, 6 held

Ahmednagar, May 3 (UNI) The city police seized 700 bags of cement from Pokardi village of the district early today and arrested 6 persons, including a private contractor, in this connection.

Acting on a specific information, a police team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Angad Devkate, intercepted four trucks, carrying 700 bags of cement, at village Pokardi at around 0230 hrs.

The trucks were illegally transporting the cement bags, meant for construction of percolation tanks and other water conservation works, to a private godown. The bags belonged to the Maharashtra Agriculture Department. The trucks were also impounded, police said.

The arrested were identified as Bhagwan Deoppa Harba, his son Gaurav (contractors), Shankar Upadhyay (godown owner), Sampat Salaram Palwe, Parmeshwar Ashok Kharat, Navnath Baburao Palwe (all truck drivers), they added.
