40 houses gutted at Lahorijan
Kohima, May 03 (UNI) At least 40 houses were reduced to ashes and over 100 families rendered homeless when a devastating fire broke out at Lahorijan under Karbi Anglong district of Assam, bordering Nagaland.
Official sources said here today that the blaze, which reportedly started from a kitchen yesterday, immediately engulfed the house and strong winds blowing at the time quickly spread the flames to the entire area.
As a result, the residents could not save their property from being reduced to ashes.
Unofficial reports said a child lost his life due to the fire, but it was yet to be confirmed officially.
Altogether five fire tenders from Dimapur Fire Brigade rushed to Lahorijan and after a battle of two hours, they managed to douse the flames, the sources said.
