Road blockade to protest factory lockout

Hoogly, May 02 (UNI) About a thousand workers of a factory, manufacturing cast iron pipes, today blocked the G T road under Mogra police station for four hours to protest the lockout of the factory.

Officer Incharge Subir Roy said the management of the Kesharam Span Pipe and Factory Ltd had cited ''low production and financial problems'' as the reasons for the lockout.

About a thousand workers had been rendered unemployed following the suspension of work at the factory.

Meanwhile, police forces had been deployed in the entire area to maintain peace, the OC added.
