NRI Affairs Commissioner to conduct Goa Migration Monitoring study
Panaji, May 2 (UNI) Commissioner for NRI Affairs in Goa, in collaboration with the Centre for Development Studies, the Department of Planning and Statistics of state government and the Xavier Centre of Historical Research, will conduct a Goa Migration Monitoring study.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, Commissioner for NRI Affairs Mr Eduardo Faleiro said the purpose of the study is to collect data on migration from Goa as well as into Goa and analyze its impact on the social and economic situation of our state. A comprehensive survey of households throughout Goa will be conducted to measure the volume of migration and to analyze its socio-economic consequences.
He said the Centre for Development studies is an autonomous Research Centre, funded by the government of India and is based in Kerala. It is one of the foremost institutes for Developmental Economics in the country. The study is expected to be completed within this year.
Mr Faleiro also said that the study will report on the demographic, social and economic characteristics of our emigrants, impact of migration on social sectors such as education, health and will contain a special report on the elderly, women and children left behind. The study will also address the problems encountered by emigrants in the countries of their destination.

request,

appointed
a
nodal
officer
in
the
Directorate
of
Industries,
to
assist
NRIs
willing
to
invest
in
Goa
and
to
provide
facilities
to
Goan
expatriates.
Our
department
have
now
decided
to
establish
an
'Overseas
Goan
Facilitation
Centre',
in
partnership
with
the
Ministry
of
Overseas
Indian
Affairs
(MOIA)
and
the
Confederation
of
Indian
Industries
(CII).
The
Senior
officials
of
both
will
visit
Goa
soon
to
finalise
this
