Lankan fishermen detained by ICG
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, May 2 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has detained 45 Sri Lankan fishermen along with their nine fishing trawlers for illegally fishing in Indian territorial waters off Visakhapatnam coast.
A spokesperson of ICG, Mandapam Station, said the Lankan fishermen were detained by the ICG, Vishakapatnam Station, on April 27 last.
All the detained, hailing from Pechalai in the island nation, were handed over to the ICG, Mandapam Station, this morning for further interrogation.
After interrogation, they would be handed over to the state police this evening for further action. The detained Sri Lankan fishermen would be booked under the Indian Passports Act, he added.
