Jawan attempts suicide in Jammu

Jammu, May 2: A suicidal attempt was made by an army jawan by shooting himself with INSAS Rifle at Birpur area of city outskirts, official sources said here today.

''The jawan has been identified as Naik Mahinder Singh of 8 Dogra Regiment, resident of district Kathua made abortive bid to end his life by shooting himself with his service Rifle last evening,'' Defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami told the sources.

However, the injured jawan, who sustained bullet injury in his stomach, was shifted to the Military Hospital (MH) Satwari where his condition was stated to be critical.

''Army has ordered court of inquiry into the whole episode'', he added.
