Hyderabad, May 2 (UNI) DLF Utilities Pvt Ltd Senior Executive Director K K Bhattacharya today formally launched the IGBC-Green Homes Rating System at CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre here.

IGBC-Green Home Rating System, the ''first ecological rating programme'' developed in India exclusively for the residential sector, addresses the most important national priorities which include conservation of natural resources, infrastructure, water efficiency, energy efficiency, handling of domestic waste, health and well-being of the occupants, a release here claimed.

The rating system would ensure that the residential sector in India contributed towards optimal use of natural resources and resulted in water savings to the tune of 30 to 50 per cent, energy savings to the tune of 20 to 30 per cent, excellent day lighting, enhanced ventilation, water efficient green cover, effective waste management, health and well-being of the occupants.

In a statement, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Chairman Prem C Jain said, ''It is critical for the health and well being of every individual to adopt green measures in their homes because we spend longer hours at home than we spend elsewhere. Hence this rating system would do a great service to us.'' The movement received a tremendous response as over 50 pilot projects with a built-up area of more than 47 million sq ft were signed today for the IGBC-Green Home Rating Systems. The projects include individual houses, multi-dwelling and gated communities.
