BJP strike evokes mixed response in Chhattisgarh
Raipur, May 2 (UNI) The nationwide 'general strike' called by the Bharatiya Janata Party against inflation evoked a mixed response in Chhattisgarh where no violence was reported.
Reports from various parts of the state said that the impact was more in urban areas while it was partial in towns. The impact was almost nil in naxalism-affected Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur and Surajpur.
Principal business establishments remained closed here. The Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and other key trade organisations supported the strike. Government offices functioned normally and vehicular traffic was as usual.
The effect was widespread in Jashpur, Dhamtari, Rajnandgaon and Durg towns but below 50 per cent in Kawardha, Korba, Kanker, Bilaspur, Mahasamund and Janjgir-Champa districts.
