Arcelor Mittal announces a Rs 1200 crore rehabilitation package
Bhubaneswar, May 2 (UNI) Steel major Arcelor Mittal today announced a Rs 1200 crore resettlement and rehabilitation package for the displaced people of its proposed 12 million ton mega steel plant in Keonjhar district.
After reviewing the progress of the work, Arcelor Mittal's Chief Executive Officer Sanat Misra told newspersons said the Rs 1200 crore project would be implemented for the economic rehabilitation of displaced people.
Besides Dr Misra, two members of Group management Board of Arcelor Mittal -- Mr Sudhir Maheswari and Mr Bijay Bhatnagar -- met the Chief Minister and apprised him of the progress made so far.
Dr Mishra said the Orissa RR policy was one of the best in the country and his company would stick to it.
He said every displaced family would get a dwelling unit and modern rehabilitation colony would be set up at identified places near the plant site.
All colonies would have school, hospital and other basic civic amenities, he said.
Dr Misra said the work for the mega steel project both in Orissa and Jharkhand was progressing well. The land acquisition for both projects was moving ahead as per schedule.
He said the Detail Project report for the 12 million ton steel project would be submitted to the state government next month.
Dr Mishra said the company would also set up a state of the art ITI at the plant site to train the local youths.
He said negotiations with three companis having experience in running ITI's was in progress.
Mr Mishra said the government had requested the state government to provide land for setting up of the ITI.
Arcelor Mittal Company had signed an Mou with the Orissa government in December 2006 to set up an integrated greenfield 12 million ton mega steel project in two phases at an estimated cost of Rs 40,000 crore.
