Admn awaiting Commission's report for one pc ST quota
Puducherry, May 2 (UNI) The Puducherry administration is awaiting the report of the Backward Class Commission to take steps for providing one per cent reservation to Scheduled Tribes, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy told the Legislative Assembly today.
Replying to a question, Mr Kandasamy said the Centre had rejected a letter from the territorial administration recommending for one per cent reservation for the STs.
He said the government had approached the BC commission and steps would be taken once the recommendation was received.
Mr Na Ra Kalainathan (CPI) said the governemnt could include the one per cent reservation earmarked for the STs along with the 33 per cent for the BC to make it 34 per cent and provide one per cent to the STs.
CPI member R Viswanathan suggested that the administration could term them as backward class tribes and issue a notification in this regard.
