Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) Panic gripped a village in south Kashmir when seven live fuses were detected this morning, official sources said.

They said as people were busy in their daily work, seven live fuses created panic in village Sombrunna Kanal.

Police were informed and those present in the area were taken to safe places.

Later Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) destroyed one of the fuse on the spot without causing any damage while five other fuses were taken to safe place.

They said one of the fuse was later taken to police station.

More than a dozen live fuses were destroyed by the BDS during the past one month in villages around the Khandroo, where thousands of Bofors and other shells were destroyed in devastating fire in Field Ammunition Depot in August last year.

After the fire was controlled in the depot, thousands of unexploded shells were defused by about 100 BDS in about a dozen adjacent villages. However, hundreds still unexploded shells remained in these villages and paddy and other fields.

About 20 people, mostly fire-fighters of Army, were killed and 50 others wounded.
