Maruti April sales up 23.8%

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Maruti Suzuki India Limited today said its sales for the month of April 2008 grew 23.8 per cent to 62,336 vehicles compared to 50,352 units in the corresponding period last year.

The company sold 7,64,842 vehicles during April 2007-March 2008, a statement said.

The company sold 59,539 be vehicles in the domestic market in during the month as against 48,652 units sold in the same period last year, an increase of 22.4 per cent.

The exports of Maruti vehicles for April 2008 grew 64.5 per cent 2,797 units as against 1,700 units in the corresponding period last year.

Altogether, Maruti exporeted 53,024 units during the year.

With this, the company sold a total of 7,11,818 units during April 07-March 08.

Maruti's volume in the domestic A2 segment grew by 27.3 per cent in A3 segment by 97.1 per cent and the C segment by 25.9 per cent during the month as compared to sales in April 2007.

The sales of Maruti 800 during the month declined 29.5 per cent to 4,458 vehicles as against 6,324 units sold in the corresponding period last year.

The total number of units sold in the year stood at 69,553 vehicles.

In the C segment the sales of Omni and Versa grew 25.9 per cent to 7,705 during the month as compared to 6118 units sold in April 2007. With this a total of 89,729 units were sold during the year April 07-March 08.

Alto, Wagon-R, Zen and Swift of A2 segement witnessed 27.3 per cent hike in their sales to 43,121 during April 08 compared to 33,878 units in the same period a year ago.

The total number of the vehicles sold during the year stood at 4,99,280.

Maruti's A3 segment comprising of SX4, Esteem, SZire grew 97.1 per cent with sales of 4,187 units during the month whereas it was 2,124 in the same period a year ago. During the year 49335 vehicles were sold.

During the month 59,471 Total Passenger Cars were sold compared to 48,444 units in the corresponding period last year, which is an increase of 22.8 per cent. The total number of units sold during the year stood at 7,07,897 units.
