Kalam recommends R and D lab to upgrade technology in industries

Coimbatore, May 1 (UNI) Former President A P J Abdul Kalam today called upon industrialists in this textile city to start an exclusive research and development (R and D) laboratory to upgrade the technologies used in small scale industries.

While addressing the industrialists after conferring the title 'Creator of Prosperity' on the 94-year-old Industrialist D Balasundaram, at Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Coimbatore (ICCIC), he said out of the total 11 million small scale industries in the country about ten per cent were suffering due to non-upgradation of technology. An R and D lab would help those industries to upgrade their technology and to become a model to the country, he added.

Stating that his dream of vision, mission and social responsibilities have become real by joining with ISRO for space research, Mr Kalam said a leader should always go through the unexplored path, instead of following the already explored path.

There will be failures while marching in the unexplored path, but success will be achieved one day, he added.

He said ''innovation and creativity is necessary for any industry's growth.'' He expected that by 2020 the literacy rate in the state would be cent per cent from the present 73 per cent, unemployment rate should be zero per cent, per capita should rise to one lakh from the present 25,900 and BPL people should be nil.

He said there was necessity for one more green revolution in this country for food security. The new revolution will involve seed, soil and consumption of less water for irrigation.

For the country to become self sufficient in energy production, we should focus on bio fuel, which should be cultivated in the waste land, he clarified.
