Collector advocates early detection of TB
Tiruchirapalli, May 1 (UNI) Tiruchirapalli District Collector T Soundiah has said smoking, food habits and inhalation of exhaust fumes from vehicles were the factors causing TB and advocated early detection and cure.
Over the past seven years, a total of 30,000 TB patients have been covered and completely cured of the ailment under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP.) Every year there were 3,000 new cases. Unlike in the past when the treatment duration spanned two years, the ailment could now be cured in six months.
Mr Soundiah made this observation while inaugurating a Designated Microscopic Centre under RNTCP at the BHEL Main Hospital here yesterday.
