Chittorgarh DC to appeal against conviction

Chittorgarh, May 1 (UNI) Chittorgarh District Collector P L Agrawal will file an appeal against a three-month jail term handed down to him by a local court yesterday for failure in compliance with the court's directives for improving parking facility on the court premises.

Agrawal said his lawyers were in the process of seeking a certified copy of the court order and the next course of action would be taken after studying the court verdict.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Kumar Jain yesterday handed three-month imprisonment and also ordered attachment of his property in a contempt petition filed against non-compliance of the court's directives.

A petition was filed by the then Bar Council Chairman Chand Mal Agrawal and others before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in March 2006 for improvement of parking facility on the court premises.

The court had directed the district administration to take effective action in this regard within a month.

However, no action had been taken and as a result, a contempt petition was filed before the court.
