Vice-Admiral Nirmal Verma to take charge on May 2

Visakhapatnam, Apr 30 (UNI) Vice-Admiral Nirmal Verma will take charge as the new Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) here on May two.

Admiral Verma would take charge from Vice-Admiral Raman Prem Suthan, who took over as the Vice-Chief of the Naval Staff, in New Delhi today.

Admiral Verma, a specialist in communications and electronic warfare, had joined the Navy on July one, 1970. He had attended the Staff Course at the Royal Naval Staff college in the UK and the Naval Command Course at the Naval War College, USA.

The ENC had gained prominence in the recent past and this was witnessed by enhanced interaction with regional neighbours like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and other countries of South East Asia.

The eastern fleet was presently on overseas deployment, in consonance with the country's 'Look East' policy, and its ships were visiting Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia.
