Senior leaders file nomination for third phase polls
Bangalore, Apr 30 (UNI) KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, former Chief Minister N Dharam Singh and BJP's Chandrakanth Bellad were among 112 candidates who have filed their nominations today for the third phase of Karnataka Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on May 22.
Mr Kharge filed his papers from Chitapur(SC) seat, while N Dharam Singh filed papers from Jewargi seeking re-election for a record ninth time in a row.
According to official sources, 112 candidates filed their papers for the third phase on the fifth day of filing of nominations. Sixty nine seats spread over ten districts would go to poll on May 22.
As many as 221 aspirants have filed their nomination papers for the third phase so far. The last date for filing nomination is May three and scrutiny would be done on May five. The last date for withdrawal of papers would be May seven.
Congress received a setback in Davangere when its candidates were rejected for want of proper B form. Two candidates Syed Saifullah and district unit President S S Mallikarjun had given one form, in which the latter's name was rewritten.
Meanwhile, 22 papers were rejected in the 66 seat second phase poll, for which voting was scheduled for May 16.
In Davanagere district, 28 nomination papers including that of two Congress leaders were rejected during the scrutiny in Davanagere North Assembly seat. Full details from some districts were awaited, election office sources added.
