Oscar Fernandes greets workers on May Day
New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Minister of State for Labour and Employment (independent charge) Oscar Fernandes has greeted workers on the occasion of May Day.
Saying the day represents sacrifice of the working class, Mr Fernandes in a message, said the Government had taken several important measures to improve the working conditions and welfare of the working class.
During 2007-08, health insurance scheme for the poor, known as Rasthtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), had become operational from April 1 and the Unorganised Sector Workers' Social Security Bill introduced in Parliament to provide social security to unorganised sector workers.
The minister said several amendments had been carried out in central labour laws and the eligibility limit for the payment of bonus enhanced to benefit a large number of workers. He expressed the resolve of his Government to pursue efforts to promote the welfare of workers.
