Loan waiver: MP CM writes to PM

Bhopal, Apr 30 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to speedily issue detailed directives regarding the farm loan waiver announced in the 2008-09 Budget, official sources said.

In a letter to Dr Singh, Mr Chouhan wrote, ''crores of peasants are hopeful after the announcement but might become concerned and doubtful if there is excessive delay in further action.'' Copies of the missive were released to the press today.

''Cooperative financial institutions, that are the chief base of the rural agricultural credit system, had to almost stop loan recovery after the announcement. A solid scheme for loan disbursal is yet to be drafted for the kharif season. The National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development has declined to consider fresh proposals,'' the Chief Minister added.
