Dairy scheme for rural women in TN
Chennai, Apr 30 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today announced a Dairy scheme for rural women, involving an investment of Rs 22 crore.
Replying to the debate on the demand for grants for his department in the assembly, Dairy Development Minister U Mathivanan said the scheme, named ''Perarignar Anna Centenary Dairy Scheme'', would be implemented to increase milk production and the income of milk producers.
Under the scheme, 10,000 cross bred milch animals would be provided to rural women self help groups at a cost of Rs 22 crore for a period of two years through the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation to benefit 5,000 women in 200 villages.
He said the Government also proposed to create a welfare fund named ''Peraringnar Anna Centenary Milk Producers' Welfare Fund'' for the benefit of milk suppliers.
They would be required to pay Re one per month for the fund and in the event of fatal accidents, hospitalisation disability, expenses towards marriages and educational expenses, they would be given up to Rs one lakh.
