25-year-old hangs self day after 1st marriage anniversary
New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) A 25-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide just a day after her first marriage anniversary after being regularly harrassed for dowry in Pitampura area of north-west Delhi this afternoon.
Astha Jain was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling at her 'F' Block Pitampura residence by her brother-in-law at about 1400 hrs who then called her parents, said the police.
Her father Ashok Jain reached the spot and 'gheraoed' the house along with dozens of his supporters, seeking arrest of his daughter's in-laws, whom he accused of harrassing her for dowry ever since marriage.
He said she had been murdered and then hanged to show suicide.
Ashok Jain, who has a paper business in Chawri Bazaar, said her mother-in-law Asha (58) and sister-in-law were the chief culprits.
Married to Amit (27) on April 29, 2007, Astha in her suicide note said she was taking the extreme step as she was being regularly harrassed for dowry.
An SDM inquiry has been ordered and Ashok Jain's statement taken.
