'SHUBMANGAL' scheme extended to all districts of Maharashtra

Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) The Maharashtra Government has decided to extend the 'Shubmangal' Scheme of mass marriages of farmers/farm labourers daughters to the remaining 29 districts of the state.

The scheme has received tremendous response in six districts of Vidarbha, which has registered the highest number of suicides by farmers. Under the scheme, 18,588 marriages were performed during last three years, for which a grant of about Rs 19 crore has been given by the state government.

Keeping in view the positive response received for the scheme in Vidarbha, the state government has decided to implement it in the remaining districts for which an amount of Rs 50 crore has been set aside. A minimum of 10 couples are required for mass marriage.
