Rattled by suicides, police put accused in lockup in underwear

Varanasi, Apr 29 (UNI) Rattled by recent suicide cases in police custody, the district police here stripped four accused and put them in lockup in their underwear.

Yesterday, four men clashed with each other over property in Shankuldhara area. Bhelupur police arrested the accused and put them behind bars in their 'underwear', sources said today.

The police action followed the suicide on April 23 of advocate Anoop Singh who hanged himself by making a noose from his t-shirt in Chauk police station here. Three policemen were suspended following the incident.

Advocates also took to the streets following the suicide in police custody.
