Govt on way to correct existing TRP system

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) The existing method of determining Television Rating Points(TRP), which was based on a very small sample size, would be changed to make it more accurate.

This was indicated by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi while replying to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

The Ministry has requested the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to give its recommendations for formulation of policy guidelines regarding Television Audience Measurement (TAM)/Television Rating Points (TRP) so as to widen the sample size and bring greater transparency into it, Mr Dasmunsi said.

He said TRAI has floated a consultation paper on Policy Guidelines for TAM/TRP which is available on their websiten.

Meanwhile, the Government has also held a series of meetings with the various stakeholders. No other action is proposed without the receipt of TRAI's recommendations, he said.
