Two acquitted in 1992 Mumbai rioting case
Mumbai, Apr 28 (UNI) Two persons, accused of taking part in the 1992 riots here, were today acquitted by a special court due to lack of evidence.
Pronouncing the judgement, Metropolitan Magistrate C Bapat Sarkar said Sayed Amiruddin Patel and Samir Khan were acquitted of all charges levelled against them in the case as prosecution had failed to bring the witnesses in the court for recording of their evidences and prove the charges against them during the trial.
Ms Bapat Sarkar said there was no substantial evidence against the two accused.
However, one Mehmood Mohammed Ansari is till absconding in the case.
On December 29, 1992, these people were arrested from Gandhinagar area of Jogeshwari, a western suburb, on rioting charges. Even though charges levelled against them were of bailable nature, they were lodged in jail for more than one-and-a-half months.
