Rains likely in TN

Chennai, Apr 28 (UNI) Heavy rains are likely to occur over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours following the formation of a severe cyclonic storm, which lay centered at about 550 km east of Chennai.

Weathermen today said latest satellite images indicate that the cyclonic storm 'Nargis' over south west bay and adjoining south east and west central bay had further intensified into a severe cyclonic storm with estimated central pressure of 996 hectopascal.

The system was likely to intensify further and move in a north westerly direction.

Under the influence of this storm, rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at a few places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Isolated thundershowers were also likely over interior Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours.
