peaceful voting in UP council polls
Lucknow, Apr 28(UNI) Polling for the Biennial elections for eleven seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council is on in the state today.
An average of about 15 per cent of the electorate have exercised their franchise in the polling for six teachers' and five graduates constituencies till noon.
The polling was underway on a peaceful note and no untoward incident was reported, the police headquarters here said.
According to the State Election Office sources, till 1200 hrs, 18 per cent voting was recorded in six teachers seats while 12 per cent electorate have voted in five graduate seats.
Altogether, 6,87,000 voters will decide the fate of 180 candidate, of which 46 are trying for the teachers constituencies and rest 134 for the graduate seats.
The teachers constituencies are Lucknow, Meerut, Faizabad-Gorakhpur,Agra,Varanasi and Bareilly while the graduate seats are Lucknow, Agra,Meerut,Varanasi and Allahabad-Jhansi.
Counting of votes would be done on April 30.
