Councillors resign to oppose militant threat
Imphal, April 28 (UNI) Members of the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat today submitted their resignation to Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh demanding action against the extorting militants.
The members rallied towards the Chief Minister's residence to submit their resignation but were stopped by the police.
The councillors have alleged that the militants in the state have been demanding huge extortion money from the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
The militants have also locked the Nambol municipal office, the councillors said adding that they were unable to carry on their duties.
Despite several agitation, the government has not paid any heed to our woes and not taken any action.
