'Political stability' Modi's mantra for development
Karkala, Karnataka, Apr 27 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi today stressed that political stability and accountability is the only mantra for the overall development of any state.
Addressing a mammoth election meeting to canvas for the party's Karkala constituency candidate Sunil Kumar here, he said due to the political stability in Gujarat during his earlier two-terms in office, the state could achieve fast developments in all spheres.
If the BJP was voted to power in the coming election, Karnataka could also be turned into a developed state on the lines of Gujarat, with political stability established in the state under the leadership of B S Yaddyurappa, he said.
Mr Modi claimed that before BJP took over the reins of Gujarat, the cotton production in the state was mere 23 lakh bales and now the production has increased to 1.23 crore bales.
''The people of Gujarat have now understood that only the BJP could protect the interests of the farmers, which had taken 'farmers development' as its main motto,'' he said.
Strongly criticising the Centre, he alleged that the Congress party was playing the minority card using them as its vote bank.
When the apex court pronounced capital punishment to Afzal Guru, the Congress leaders were not in favour of the verdict. They were not in favour of any capital punishment, he alleged and said it was only the BJP which had demanded the Centre to carry out the verdict of the Supreme Court.
On the predictions of political pundits, analysts and pre-poll survey by some agencies and media, Mr Modi called upon the people of Karnataka not to give any credence to any such predictions as all these were 'purchased'.
