Police yet to register migrant labourers

Nahan, Apr 27 (UNI) Despite the directives of Himachal Pradesh government to register the migrant labourers arriving in the state in search of work, no concrete steps have been taken by the Labour department and police here.

According to sources, a considerable number of labourers were engaged in work here in industrial areas of Kala-Amb and Paonta Sahib of Sirmour district.

Over 30,000 migrant labourers hailing from mainly Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand were working here and despite the directives no record had been maintained, the sources added.

Additional S P Rani Bindu Sachdeva at Nahan today said there was a need for the Labour department to arrange the registration of migrant labourers.

''Police could not approach every industry to register each migrant worker and they were only responsible for issuing identity cards,'' she said.
