Srinagar, Apr 27 (UNI) Concerned over the reports of misuse of Ultrasound clinics for pre-natal-sex determination, Jammu and Kashmir government has directed the owners to register their clinics.
Official sources said a meeting held under the chairmanship of Director Health Dr Muzaffar Ahmed Jan decided that all the Ultrasound clinics in the state shall henceforth register themselves with the Health Department of Kashmir.
The decision was taken in order to implement PNDT Act 2002 Pre-Natal-Sex selection determination (probhition and regulation) Act.
The meeting, also attended by some NGOs was told that the Act would be implemented in letter and spirit. The Director Health said out of 65 applications, 17 have been inspected in various parts so far. The meeting decided to launch awareness campaign across the valley soon.
