HC initiates steps to inspect dumping yard
Chennai, Apr 27 (UNI) The Madras High Court in a move to assess the indiscriminate dumping of garbage by the Corporation in Perungudi, had deputed a court official to make a spot inspection and submit a report in court.
The first bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Prabha Sridevan passed the order on April 25, on a writ petition filed by the Sri Sai Nagar Residential Welfare Association and others.
Accordingly, M Jayachandran, assistant registrar of the court, acting as the Court Commissioner, visited the area yesterday and assertained the views of residents, office-bearers of residential welfare association and the corporation authorities.
The court had also ordered the official to make surprise visits to the areas and make inspections at random.
The order was passed, after A L Somayaji, senior counsel and former additional Advocate General, submitted that despite specific rulings, authorities were dumping garbage outside the earmarked site.
He said a 200-feet road and a 60-feet road, branching off from the IT Corridor in Rajiv Gandhi Salai, had been littered with truckloads of garbage.
