Atwal for decorum in the Houses

Phagwara (Punjab), Apr 27 : Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal said on Sunday that special stress should be paid on maintaining the dignity of both the Houses.

He was talking to the media at a function at Phagwara and was answering questions about the 'disorderly' behaviour of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader V Maitreyan in Rajya Sabha.

Atwal said for the smooth conduct of proceeding of Parliament people with credibility and integrity should be elected.

He also said that the MPs should be given adequate training.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari on April 24 invoked Rule 225 under which the Chairman can ask a member to withdraw from the House if he feels that his behaviour was grossly disorderly.

Ansari evicted AIADMK leader V Maitreyan for disrupting the proceedings of the House.

Maitreyan was asked to leave the House during question hour after he repeatedly demanded a view from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over Shipping Minister T R Baalu's admission that he used his office to get gas for companies run by his sons.
