Andaman NCP leader arrested for abusing tribal officer

Port Blair, Apr 27 (UNI) Andaman NCP's vice-president J N Choudhury was arrested for abusing a tribal police officer yesterday.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Chand said today. He told UNI Mr Choudhury during a vigilance inquiry of local anti-corruption department abused the investigating tribal police officer.

Mr Chand said abusing a tribal is a non-bailable offence under Prevention of Atrocity Act (SC and ST).

Mr Choudhury was produced in a local court and has been sent to judicial custody till May 8.

However, no NCP leader in Andaman was available to comment on the issue.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are home to six primitive tribal communities, of which Nicobari and Shompen, are found in Nicobar Group of Islands while rest four Tribal Groups Sentinels--Jarawa, Onge and Great Andamanese are in Andaman District.
