Cabinet Secy,Central officials assess situation in Manipur
Imphal, Apr 26 (UNI) A 15-member team from New Delhi today discussed the security situation in Manipur with state government officials, even as the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-MC) claimed responsibility for the April 24 bomb blast at Babupara.
Official sources said the team, led by Union Cabinet Secretary M Chandrasekhar, arrived here yesterday to take stock of the law and order situation in the state, two days after the explosion at the high security zone of Babupara in Imphal.
The team discussed various issues with Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh, Director General of Police Y Joykumar and other state government officials.
The other members of the team included Secretary (Co-ordination) in the Cabinet Secretariat Dr Renuka Choudhury, Defence Secretary Ajay Singh, Rural Development Secretary Dr F A Sharma, Planning Commission Advisor Dr Sinha, Home Secretary L Gupta, DoNER Ministry Secretary Vena S Rao, Director of Information Bureau P C Haidar, Petroleum Joint Secretary A K Jain and Director General of Road Development G Sharan.
Meanwhile, a statement issued here today by "military affairs secretary" of the KCP(MC) Lanheiba Meitei said the explosion, which left three persons, including a woman, injured, was executed by the demo section of the outfit's fifth Lanjaba Unit.
Superintendent of Police (IW) L Kailun said state police personnel had enforced traffic regulations in and around the main market area of Imphal city and entry of motor vehicles was stopped completely.
