Unauthorised statues removed in TN

Madurai, Apr 25 (UNI) The district administration removed the statues of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar and Marudu Pandiyars, which were installed at Viradhanur village without permission, today.

Police said the residents of Viradhanur installed the statues without obtaining permission from the district administration, yesterday. Stiff resistance from the locals forced an official team to retreat.

However, an official team led by Revenue Divisional Officer Dharmaraj went to the village and removed the statues with the assistance of police. Tension prevailed for a couple of hours as the villagers engaged in heated argument with the officials.

Meanwhile, the District Collector S S Jawahar today warned that stern action would be taken against those who install statues without obtaining permission from the district administration.

People should desist from installing unauthorised statues, Mr Jawahar said in a press release here.
