SIT visits Godhra train burning site

Ahmedabad, Apr 25 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT), appointed by the Supreme Court, today visited Godhra, where 59 people were burnt alive in Sabarmati Express Train carnage on February 27, 2002.

The SIT, led by former CBI director R K Raghavan, inspected the burnt S-6 bogey of the train and visited other places related with the incident. Other members of team who visited Godhra included senior police officers Geetha Johari, Ashish Bhatia and Shivanand Jha.

Delivering its ruling in response to petitions filed by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the apex court had last month ordered the formation of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe 10 of the worst massacres during the bandh called by the VHP following the Godhra train fire killing 59 people on February 27, 2002.
