Second day of culling in Tripura, 8 villages covered

Agartala, Apr 25 (UNI) The culling operation entered its second day today with Animal Husbandry team carrying out the work in eight villages of Mohanpur block in West Tripura.

Poultry farmers and other villagers are also supporting the culling team by providing chickens, ducks and other birds infected with H5N1 virus.

''There is no resistance from any poultry farmers as it happened in West Bengal. The people here are very cooperative,'' Animal Resource Department Director A Roy Barman said.

The ARD has asked the people to bring the birds to the designated spots instead of the culling team going to the houses looking for the birds.

''The village panchayat is also very cooperative as they are organising awareness campaign and asking the villagers not to hoard the infected birds,''Mr Barman said.
