SC declines to consider plea under RTI Act against HC
New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a petition against refusal of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to provide information regarding pending cases under the Right to Information Act.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran told Prashant Bhushan, counsel for the petitioner, that this court could not issue directions to a High Court Chief Justice for the manner to be adopted for disposal of cases.
The petitioner, R T P S Tulsi, had prayed for details from the High Court regarding the cases pending which had been remanded back by the apex court for fresh consideration and the period since when these cases were pending.
Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Vijender Jain had, however, declined to provide information under the RTI Act.
The apex court told the petitioner that this court did not have any administrative control over a High Court and no directions could be issued on judicial side in this regard.
