Punjab Police bust IPL beetting racket

Ludhiana, Apr 25 (UNI) The Punjab Police today busted a betting racket involving several crores of rupees into the onging IPL Twnety-20 matches being staged at various venues in the country.

SP (City) Ashish Choudhary told reporters that three persons had been arrested in this connection. Fifteen mobile phones, two laptops amd two calculators were seized from their possession.

The arrests were made following a tip off that a betting racket involving IPL matches was operating in the city. Acting on this information the police took into custody Raju, a resident of Habowal locality, his uncle Harish Kumar and another person identified as Mukesh Kumar of Salem Toweri area.

The main kingpin, Raju, admitted during questioning that bets as high as Rs 1.75 crore were placed by their 'clients' in the match between Hyderabad Chargers and Rajasthan Royals. The clients of this gang included people in Punjab and in other states including Delhi and even Mumbai.

Further investigations are being conducted into the case and the law enforcing authorities of other states had been informed.
