NRI gets lifer for killing wife
Sangrur, Apr 25 (UNI) A local court today sentenced an NRI to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of murdering his wife during his stay in the country.
The sentence was announced by Additional Sessions Judge Vivek Puri, who also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on the guilty, Harpreet Singh, the NRI from Norway.
Five others, Pargat Singh, Manjit Singh, Jagroop Singh, Karanjit Singh and Rajbir were acquitted in the case which was registered in December 2004 under sections 302, 120-B and 201 of the IPC.
Harpreet Singh who belonged to Kauke village had married Amarjit Kaur of Dewana village in 2004.
After a few month of their marriage, he lodged a complaint with the police that his wife had been kidnapped.
However, police investigations revealed that he had thrown his wife into a canal near Bhilawal village. Her dead body was later recovered from the canal.
The police arrested Harpreet Singh after registering a case and thereafter presented the evidence in the court.
