Musharraf's pics, messages being torn away from govt textbooks in Lahore

Lahore, Apr 25 : On orders from their senior officials, a group of supervisors of the Mianwali district's Education Department are tearing away pages carrying pictures and messages of President Pervez Musharraf from the textbooks of classes One to Tenth.

Beginning last afternoon, the 24 supervisors will take at least a week's time to complete the job at a local government book depot having nearly 50,000 such books.

The textbooks also carry pictures and messages of former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi.

The previous government installed former servicemen as monitors to check missing facilities in schools and attendance of teachers, reported the Dawn.

Acting Monitoring Officer Aamir Shah, however, refused to comment on the action. Nearly, 500,000 textbooks are distributed to students of public schools in the district.
