Maoists win 220 seats in CA results, emerge as single largest party

Kathamndu, Apr 25 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal today announced the final results of the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections held under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system.

Acording to the EC, the Maoists have won 220 seats in the 601-member CA, while the Nepali Congress party won 110 seats, and Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist-Leninist) garnered 103 seats, the EC told mediapersons at the EC office in the capital this afternoon The Maoists got 100 seats under the proportional representation (PR) system and 120 under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system of election, making them the single largest party.

The parties have to submit the name lists of winning candidates within seven days from today so as to include women, Madhesi, indigenous community and Marginalised community among others as per the inclusive standards maintained by the EC, Kantipur reported.

Similarly, three more days have been allotted to check over the lists submitted by the parties, if they failed to meet the criteria set by the EC.

According to the EC, around 10.0739778 votes were cast under the PR system. The final PR result showed that 25 political parties were set to occupy seats in the CA that is to draft a new constitution.
